ABOUT 2026
Our 2026 dates are listed below. We are just in the process of hiring 16 staff ages 20-30. Resumes can be sent to info@filmcampforkids.com
Film Camp for Kids & Youth (founded in 2012) offers a youth-centred and hands-on approach to learning. Summer camp instructors or “group leaders” encourage self-directed learning and exploration within a safe environment. They act as educators and guides, and they youth-led activities – in groups as well as though independent learning.
The age groups noted below are kept separate unless we do not get enough registrations for separate age groups, which also works well as fosters peer learning as well as leadership when we combine participants in different age groups.

2026 WEEKLY SCHEDULE
FILMMAKING – ALL SUMMER; EVERY WEEK, ALL AGE GROUPS
Ages 8-12 AND Ages 13-17
This is the program that built the camp. It involves all aspects of the filmmaking process. Youth work in groups to make a new film each week, including the writing, filming, acting and editing an entire film. Each week is different so students can sign up for more than one week. The youth write the script together so each week is different – new group and new film.
ANIMATION – ALL SUMMER; EVERY WEEK, ALL AGE GROUPS
Ages 8-12 AND Ages 13-17: Independent work so output depends upon interest of the participant.
This is a very popular program – see photos below. Youth work independently and, yet, in a group setting with a coach to create a short animation. Skill levels can vary between youth and that is okay. Students work on large screens and animate with software. No previous experience or equipment needed.
EXPLORING VISUAL ART – ALL WEEKS, BUT DIFFERENT AGE GOUPS WHERE POSSIBLE
WEEKS 1,3,7: Ages 8-12 / WEEKS 2,4,6,8: Ages 13-17
Visual art is a skill that everyone can benefit from. We have a Montessori model where youth work at their own level through a variety of visual arts – painting, drawing, sculpture, crafts and more – in a small group setting with others who are the same age. Final creative schedule depends upon interests of the group for the week.

Weeks 2 (Ages 9-12) and 5 (Ages 13-16): ACTING AND VOICEOVER
A fun camp that helps the youth learn about character work, voiceover, acting on stage vs in film, and more. We may be teaming up with an organization to offer this program weekly, pending space availability.
Weeks 3 and 4 (ages 10-15): STOP MOTION
Participants will make a stop motion short film using Legos, Batman and/or toys from home – the choice is decided by the group. This is always a week of fun and creativity. Claymation is sometimes introduced into this class.
Week 5 (Ages 10-17): CREATIVE WRITING – a second week can be added if demand is high
By the end of the week, participants will become familiar with the creative process of writing poems and short stories, film scripts, and/or produce a portfolio of original work. Final schedule depends upon interests of the group.
Weeks 5 (Ages 9-12) and 6 (Ages 13-17): PHOTOGRAPHY
Youth learn the basics of a DSLR camera and shoot indoors and outdoors around Downtown Windsor to create your very own photography portfolio. We provide the cameras and tripods. Cell phone and iPad photography and edits can also be explored if desired.
Week 7 (Ages 12-17): SPECIAL EFFECTS MAKE-UP, PROP MAKING, AND MASK MAKING
Participants have been known to make and paint a hand mold in the shape of their own hand, paint a mask, learn about special effects using sound and green screens, and more. During “drying time” other art projects will be explored. Youth discover the art of prop making and learn to make props by using things you may have at home – cardboard, aluminum foil and more.
Week 8 (Ages 10-15): COSTUME DESIGN (SEWING)
Youth learn to design and sew costume designs through sketching and fabric selection. No sewing experience required, just creativity!
