Film Camp for Kids & Youth is proud to offer virtual and in-person kids classes to youth who are interested in learning more about film, photography, writing, and more. Our program is on Zoom and offers children and teens an opportunity to learn new skills. Check out the upcoming schedule of kids classes below!
May 2022 Virtual Kids Classes
Advanced Acting – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, May 18 at 5-6pm – $10 | Expand your acting, as a follow-up to our Acting for Beginners, Advanced Acting goes into more details on how to act for the screen. Students also learn a variety of techniques they can practice at home to better improve their acting skills.
Lighting Basics – Ages 10-15 – Friday, May 20 at 5-6pm – $10 | Flick the switch in our Lighting Basics Class. Lighting is used to frame a scene, showcase emotions, and convey certain themes. In this class, students learn how lighting affects film and techniques for how to light their own movies.
The Basics of Screenwriting – Ages 10-15 – Saturday, May 21 at 2-3pm – $10 | Start your film with the right story. In this class, students learn the basics of coming up with a script for short films and explain how to format a film script using Celtx.
Jobs in Filmmaking – Ages 13-17 – Tuesday, May 24 at 5-6pm – $10 | Get a head start on working in film. DIT? Producer? Continuity expert? There are many jobs in the filmmaking industry! In this class, our instructor explains the roles of certain jobs for film and the experience you need to get them!
Cinematography 101 – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, May 25 at 5-6pm – $10 | Control the audience’s emotions by learning cinematography. This class goes over the importance of it and how aspects of cinematography are used to convey emotions. Students also learn the basics of a DSLR camera and how it can affect their visuals.
Claymation – Ages 10-15 – Thursday, May 26 at 5-6pm – $10 | Claymation is a form of stop motion animation where animators create the characters using clay. In this class, students learn about Claymation and how making a claymation works!
Photo Composition – Ages 10-15 – Friday, May 27 at 5-6pm – $10 | Take better photos by learning Photo Composition. There is much more to composing an image than just taking a photo. In this course, students learn the different types of shots, the rule of thirds, and how to use these methods to take better photos.
How to Make a Movie Using Your Cellphone – Ages 10-15 – Saturday, May 28 at 2-3pm – $10 | Who said you need a fancy camera to make a movie? Today, people can easily film and edit a movie on their own device! In this class, students learn how to film their movies on a digital device and how to edit them using iMovie and other editing software.
Photo Editing – Ages 10-15 – Sunday, May 29 at 2-3pm – $10 | Don’t worry about getting the perfect shot, learn to edit it better! In this class, students learn how to edit their images using Adobe Lightroom, where they can edit the cropping, colour, focus, and retouch of an image to better emphasize its look.

Storyboarding – Ages 10-15 Saturday, June 11 from 2-3pm | Every great movie needs a plan. Be prepared to learn how to layout your videos.
How to Film Alone – Ages 10-15 – Saturday, June 18 from 2-3pm | Be the star and producer of your own movie! Learn how to create a film by yourself.
Storytelling in Film – Ages 10-15 – Sunday, June 19 from 2-3pm | All films begin with a story. Learn how storytelling works in film, and to create a story using the film story structure.
Production Design – Ages 10-15 – Saturday, June 25 from 2-3pm – | Lights, backdrops and props are all a part of the production design. Explore ways to bring them all together
July – Virtual Kids Classes
Screenwriting for Beginners – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, July 6th from 1-2pm – $10 | Students learn the basics of how to write and format a script on Celtx.
How to Write a Script for a Short Film – Ages 10-15 – Monday, July 11 from 1-4pm – $30 | Writing a script for a short film is very different from a feature film or a TV show. In this class, students learn how to write a script for a 5-minute film and create their own script with the instructor.
Cinematography – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, July 13 from 1-2pm – $10 | Students learn the different types of shots, how to compose them, and how filmmakers can use them to showcase a story.
Acting – Ages 10-15 – Monday, July 18 from 1-4pm – $30 | Students will learn different acting techniques for the screen and the stage. They will then be able to apply these techniques through acting games and demonstrations.
Directing 101 – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, July 20 from 1-2pm – $10 | Learn the role of the director, and some of the techniques directors use when directing a scene.
How to Edit on Final Cut Pro – Ages 10-15 – Monday, July 25 from 1-4pm – $30 | Final Cut Pro is an Apple Editing software used at the Film Camp to Edit Short Films. In this class, students will learn how to edit a short film and use a series of clips to edit their own 30-second film.
Storyboarding – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, July 27 from 1-2pm – $10 | Before film production begins, the director often works with the screenwriter to draw out the visuals of the film. In this class, students will learn about how storyboarding is done and how storyboards affect the final look of a film.
August – Virtual Kids Classes
Advanced Cinematography – Ages 10-15 – Monday, August 1 from 1-4pm – $30 | As a follow up to our Cinematography Class, Advanced Cinematography goes more in-depth in the methods discussed and demonstrates more techniques as students learn how to film on Digital Cameras.
Acting for Beginners – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, August 3 from 1-2pm – $10 | Learn the basics of acting for film, and how this differs from acting for the stage. Explore how body language, facial expressions, and tone are used to convey meaning.
The Basics of a DSLR Camera – Ages 10-15 – Thursday, August 4 at 1pm – $10 | Students will learn how Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO affect the look of a film, and how filming on a DSLR Camera works.
Acting – Ages 10-15 – Monday, August 8 from 1-4pm – $30 | Students will learn different acting techniques for the screen and the stage. They will then be able to apply these techniques through acting games and demonstrations.
Production Design – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, August 10 from 1-2pm – $10 | Learn how the look of a set can help enhance the character development and storyline of a film.
Setting the Scene: Production, Set, and Prop Design – Ages 10-15 – Monday, August 15 from 1-4pm – $30 | See how Set, prop, and overall production design can help to set the tone for a film.
Editing for Beginners – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, August 17 from 1-2pm – $10 | Learn to tell your story. With specific cuts, colouring, and audio, the moods and emotions within a story are brought out to influence the viewer. In this class, students will learn the basics of editing on Adobe Premiere to better convey a story.
Costume and Makeup Design – Ages 10-15 – Monday, August 22 at 1-4pm – $30 | Learn how Costume and Makeup design are used to build character development and affect a scene.
Sound Design – Ages 10-15 – Wednesday, August 24 at 1pm – $10 | See how sound elements such as sound effects, music, room tone, and foley, and help to elevate the visuals of a scene.
